Starting
on the 8th May we are attempting to run the newly established 864KM
Gore Tex® Scottish National Trail from Kirk Yetholm to Cape Wrath. To our
knowledge no one has run the entire trail in a single effort yet. The trail
takes in some of the best and most challenging landscapes Scotland has to
offer; from the rolling Borders hills to the untamed wilderness of the
Cairngorms and northwest. The route is not entirely way marked so we will be
relying on our navigation skills as well as our physical fitness. We aim to
average running 60KM per day, although distances will vary depending on road access and recovery days. We have put
together a provisional 17day plan that we shall aim to stick to, all going
well. Each day we will carry packs containing food, water, clothes and
emergency gear.
We
have decided to raise money for Scottish Wildlife Trust. As runners we love to
roam the hills and wild places where we can immerse ourselves in the natural
environment away from modern living. The Scottish Wildlife Trust does great
things to conserve these places and the wonderful animals we share them with. As well as raising money we hope that by filming our trip we can show
the wonders Scotland has to offer and why it needs protected.
